Begin your cycling journey at Morumu Camp and ride all the way to the remote Shira Plateau—an unforgettable off-road experience along the Shira Route of Mount Kilimanjaro. This ride not only connects you with trekkers ascending the mountain but also offers a deep immersion into its breathtaking ecosystems.

As you ascend, you’ll pedal through multiple ecological zones. The forest zone welcomes you with the sights and sounds of monkeys in the treetops, while the heath and moorland zones open up to wider vistas and possible encounters with larger wildlife. On a clear day, the mighty Kibo Peak rises dramatically ahead of you, especially striking as you approach the mountain’s helipad.

Day 1 Cycling to Shira Plateau | 47km

Your day kicks off at 7:00 AM with a transfer from your hotel in Moshi to Londorossi Gate, located on the western flank of Mount Kilimanjaro. From here, your mountain biking adventure begins.

You’ll start by pedaling through the lush forest zone, gradually transitioning into the open landscapes of the heather and moorland zone as you make your way toward the helipad on the Shira Plateau. After taking in the stunning high-altitude views, you’ll retrace your route, enjoying a smooth and scenic descent back to Londorossi Gate.

Once you finish your ride, a vehicle will be waiting to return you comfortably to your hotel in Moshi.
