Makuyuni Wildlife Park was official handed over to Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) on October, 2023 by the Treasury office. Previous the Park was the farm owned by Mr. Hermanus Philip Steyn.. The agriculture activities in the Farm seized since 1980 which allowed the prosperity of wildlife in the farm.

Makuyuni Wildlife Park is renowned as part of the larger regional ecosystem. The Tarangire-Manyara Ecosystem (TME),an Ecosystem well known with remarkable conservation value and home to magnificent unique array of wildlife species. It lies on the Northern end of this ecosystem and has rich resident wildlife resources base which includes ,Lion,Giraffe,Leopard,African Buffalo, African Elephant, Zebra, wild dog. Spotted Hyaena, Impala, Grant Gazelle, Warthog ,Fringed ears Oryx and home to both the Lesser and Greater Kudu. The region is surrounded by the pastoralist local communities (Maasai) forming important cultural element of the region

When to Go

Makuyuni Wildlife Park is a year-round destination. But as many places in Tanzania, the best time to spot wildlife is during the dry season from June to October. Vegetation is more scarce allowing you to spot wildlife more easily. This is also the best time to go on a walking safari. During the green season the park is literally very green – tall grass and foliage make it trickier to spot wildlife. That being said, the rainy green season does turn the park into a beautiful and lush jewel making for a very scenic visit. It is also a great time to see Tanzania’s birdlife.

Makuyuni Wildlife Park experiences two distinct seasons: a wet season from March to May and a dry season from June to November. The yearly precipitation typically falls within the range of 600mm to 700mm, and the average annual temperature varies between 20°C and 30°C.
