Nestled along the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika, Mahale is renowned for its wild chimpanzee population, lush rainforest, and untouched beaches. This itinerary offers a perfect blend of wildlife encounters, serene lake activities, and immersive natural beauty. In Mahale Mountains National Park, Japanese researchers have studied an estimated population of about 1000 chimpanzees since the 1960’s. Highlights of this safari include chimpanzee trekking, bird watching, fishing excursions, kayaking, barbeques and sundowners on the beach around a campfire.
This itinerary includes flights from Arusha. However, we can amend the program to start from Dar es Salaam using Air Tanzania Flights from Dar es Salaam Airport to Kigoma Airport.

Day 1 Arusha to Mahale national park
Morning Shared Charter Flight from Arusha Airport to Mahale Airstrip. On arrival in Mahale, proceed on a dhow boat transfer (approx. 2 hours) to the lodge. Staff welcome and introductions followed by lunch. Afternoon/early evening chimpanzee trekking or forest walks (if time allows). Evening sundowners, dinner, and overnight at the lodge.
Shared Charter Flights operate on Mondays and Thursdays only.

Day 2 Mahale national park

After breakfast, depart for morning chimpanzee trekking. Return to the lodge for hot lunch. Boat Safari along the lakeshore in the late afternoon. Evening sundowners, dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 4 Mahale mountain national park to arusha airport
After breakfast, morning dhow boat transfer (approx. 2 hours) to Mahale Airstrip. Depart with Shared Charter Flight to Arusha Airport with packed lunch. End of services.
